A time must come for the healing of Gaza’s wounds


The Israelis might kill Hamas fighters, but what is the plan for stamping out the ideas that motivate them?

 

Every civilised country faces acute and bewildering moral and political predicaments arising from the Gaza conflict between Israel and Hamas. It is not a straightforward choice between good and evil; nor is it one choice, but several. President Joe Biden, for instance, has been losing popularity in his own back yard not just because of his sincere and passionate support for Israel’s right to exist, but because he has halted the delivery of certain key munitions to Israel at a crucial moment in the conflict. These include powerful 2,000-pound bombs, each of which could demolish a residential tower block in the southern Gazan city of Rafah.
